Farm Operations & Equipment Technician

Celina, Ohio

Looking for steady, hands-on work where every season brings something different? VanTilburg Farms is hiring a Farm Operator & Equipment Technician to help with field work, shop projects, equipment maintenance, and day-to-day farm operations. This position is a good fit for someone who is dependable, willing to learn, and ready to be part of a hardworking farm team.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Farm Operator & Equipment Technician plays an important role in supporting daily farm operations both in the field and in the shop. This position assists with planting, harvest, silage season, field tile and drainage work, equipment upkeep, and general farm maintenance. Duties will vary by season and workload. The right candidate should be willing to operate farm equipment, help with repairs and maintenance, and step in wherever needed to keep operations running safely and efficiently. Mechanical ability is preferred, but we are willing to train someone who is dependable and eager to learn.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with field operations including tillage, planting, harvest, and other seasonal crop work

  • Tend planters with seed and fertilizer during planting season

  • Operate or assist with grain cart, combine, tractors, semis, and other farm equipment as needed

  • Assist with silage season, including packing and pushing silage and supporting chopping operations

  • Operate or assist with manure spreading and hauling operations

  • Support field ditching, plowing, drainage, and field tile work

  • Perform shop work including equipment maintenance, basic repairs, cleaning, greasing, and organization

  • Assist with loading, moving, and handling equipment, parts, supplies, seed, fertilizer, and materials

  • Perform daily inspections and basic maintenance on equipment being used

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in the shop, around equipment, and on the farm

  • Follow all safety protocols, company procedures, and directions from management

  • Adapt to changing seasonal needs, weather conditions, and daily priorities

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Valid driver’s license required. CDL preferred, but not required.

    • Internal CDL training is available, with the expectation that a CDL will be obtained within 6 months of hire.

  • Farm equipment operating experience preferred, but not required

  • Experience operating semis, tractors, backhoes, payloaders, combines, or grain carts is a plus

  • Mechanical ability or willingness to learn basic equipment maintenance and repair

  • Ability to work long hours during busy seasons, including seasonal 7-day work weeks as needed

  • Physical ability to perform labor-intensive tasks including lifting, climbing, bending, and working in varying weather conditions

  • Dependable, punctual, and self-motivated with a strong work ethic

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Willingness to learn. VanTilburg Farms is willing to train the right candidate
